Not too long ago, a Deaf vlogger named LaRonda Zupp told about her embarrassing but funny deaf moments, and asked if anyone had some to share. I had to think for a while before I remembered something. I have a selective memory because I figure I have so much to remember or know, that I need to push some things out of my mind, and embarrassing moments aren’t worth dwelling on.
Here’s mine.
I had just finished a very long day at work writing/reviewing HTML codes, reviewing web sites, troubleshooting, answering e-mails, coordinating web developments, and more. I was just glad to be going home. The route to my home was one that I had been taking for over 5 years — I could drive it without really thinking about where I was going. It also happened to be at the moment of sunset and I was facing the sunset when I stopped at a stop light intersection. Traffic was light and I was the first one in front of the stop light. Two or three cars passed through, and I sat still waiting.
You guessed it.
I zoned out while waiting for the green light. I came out of my reverie when I noticed a big SUV behind me pulling out around. I figured this person had changed their mind about going straight and was going right instead. Imagine my surprise when the SUV moved in front of me and proceeded through the intersection. I peeked under the glare of the sunset to see that my light was … GREEN.
Boy, was I embarrassed. I had never gone daydreaming at an intersection, and I’m pretty sure this person in the SUV honked at me a few times. I could feel the stares from other drivers as I went through the intersection.
I went straight home and had an early bedtime.
