Cochlear Surgery Video Today

July 26th, 2007, 1:48 pm · 4 Comments · posted by

4 PM EDT (or 1 PM Yuba-Sutter time here) today, Tampa General Hospital is having a live broadcast of a cochlear implant surgery. This is a chance for any one who is curious or thinking about Cochlear Implants. The web cast will be captioned according to the e-mail I was sent.

I will be writing a separate post with my thoughts and feelings on Cochlear Implants.

You murder a Deaf child educationally and you are as bad as nazi people. You make profits by using Deaf children like guinea pigs. You are truly a sick person and spineless henchman.

  • ASL NOW says:

HANA: You scared me for a minute when I saw your first comment. Then I was relieved it was not me you were talking about. :)

Personally, I am against CI on children.

  • Diane says:

Eek! Put that thingie inside of my ear? No thanks Wearing my hearing aid is a good enough for me to hear some certain sounds.

  • ASL NOW says:

Sorry about my first comment that led you to believe that I was talking about you. I know we are on the same page and hope others will be like us. That is really sad about that Deaf child and doctors are very exciting about getting more Deaf children ci’ed because they are very lucrative. NAD does nothing about it, shame on NAD!!!

    HANA: ASL NOW, :)

I think NAD does not do anything strongly other than issue a statement because it has to do with human rights and legal rights. Parents want to have the right to have CIs done on their children. We can’t stop parents from wanting to have CIs done on their deaf children, but we can educate the public on the truths regarding CIs. Sometimes I feel like I am beating on an old drum repeating what so many Deaf are saying, but I guess we have to do that until a majority of the public understands.

I only hope that those who have CIs done on deaf babies know fully why they are doing it. If it is out of a desire to fix deafness or improve quality of life, we have to let the public know that the quality of life is no different, nor does CI fix deafness.

    Educate, educate, educate.
