Say What? ~ Connecting the Deaf & Hard of Hearing of Y-S to the Community and Beyond

Words???

I got the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Premium software two days ago and happily installed them on my work Mac. There is a third disc called Video Workshop. I decided I want to see the new features and how they work.  Videos are nice,  right?

I start the video and select a tutorial to watch. Immediately I notice something. No words. It’s all audio. I tried several different tutorial videos. I fiddled around with settings, searched for something that said “Subtitles” or “Turn on Caption.”  No luck. So I started looking for written tutorials that accompany those videos. Some, not all of them, had written tutorials included. Check it out at Video Workshop.

Do you see a way that I can view with text?  I want to make sure before I fire off an e-mail to them.

I ain’t surprised about that. I have seen several video tapes of tutorials without subtitles, captions or anything with words that we can learn from it. Let me know what are the specific law of ADA that applied this issue. It can be a tricky with the law. Sigh.

Perhaps not enough DeafRead.com readers are aware of the Adobe software suites, since they are very expensive, professional-level tools.

I use it at work and in my hobby business, and know what you mean about lack of captions. It has bothered me for years and is especially irritating because of the high cost of the software: you’d think they would at least spring for captions.

Fire off that letter and let them know. I’ll root for you!

HANA: I’ve sent an e-mail to Adobe’s Video Workshop today. I hope I hear from them soon. I asked them if there was a way to see their video tutorials with captions or subtitles. I explained that there are many other deaf/hard of hearing web designers/developers that would find their videos useful if they were 1) always accompanied with written tutorials or 2) captioned/subtitled. I also mentioned that it would make Adobe appear they are interested in Web Accessibility if their videos had options for viewing captions.
